Addis Ababa – Menged Le Sew
With a decentralized model and focused on active mobility, physical activity, creating public space for children and others, 23 streets of different lengths across the city are closed weekly or monthly.

Who is involved?

It is supported by multiple government bodies such as the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Health, the Youth and Sports Bureau of Addis Ababa, the Health Bureau of Addis Ababa, local and international partners and civic societies, and higher officials including the prime minister. However, it is primarily run by the Addis Ababa Traffic Management Authority which allocates budget and human and other resources for sustaining and expanding the program.

What comes next?
It started in Addis Ababa initially at 6 locations and then expanded to 23 locations. Now other cities such as the city of Harar are implementing Menged Le Sew every month inspired by the city of Addis Ababa.
